Not caught up yet, but it is giving severely isolated neurodivergent child and is by extension reminding me of My Sister's Keeper in that the MC has to help teach him so many things that his family shouldn't have relied on a young girl to bear the brunt of. Like just cause your kid can be a danger to themselves and others doesn't mean you can neglect them. Even more so not to in the context of the story that he has difficulty understanding emotions and regulation and is so sheltered he doesn't know how to use basic money or what an apple looks like before its cut up.
