I was thinking that all the kids would get infected as they grow older... since the anti-virus protein or whatever they produce at peak during their childhood-teen years...
But this could also be technically right, as the virus could've died out in the time it took for them to grow out, as viruses mostly cannot survive at hours without a host, and without available hosts it's quite possible the virus just died out before it could infect them during their adulthood.
