I've been rereading from the beginning and I think the three Mugos mirror "Id, Ego, Superego" of the human psyche (I don't like Sigmund Freud either but these concepts do fit in nicely). Id comes first, then Ego, last Superego is formed.
Id, to explain it very simply, is the unconscious/instinctual part of our psyche and houses the more primal wants, like hunger, lust, etc. Monster Mugo fits this description.
Ego is the part that deals with the outside world the most, and exists to keep the Id in check (grossly summarized) - that's Jerk Mugo. The Ego essentially acts as a bridge and a seal to the Id, hence Jerk and Monster Mugo's close connection.
Finally Elder Mugo is the Superego (or also known as "conscience"). Its task is to control the Ego by shame and criticism, and by nature conflicts with the Id. Which explains his "holier than thou" attitude to the other Mugos and his reluctance to be coupled with Jaheon.
I think some catalyst has to happen that causes Elder Mugo to finally accept the relationship, then he would actually have some fun with Jaheon, then they would reform into Lee Muhan. I have more to yap about how the Gummies are connected to the story lorewise, but this would be all. Thanks for reading ^^
