Well if you think about it, the root of this behaviour is the grandma, who left hyesung when he was a child.

Poor byul is always running away as soon as he feels overwhelmed with his Feelings or the Situation.
I'm Sure this is from the childhood trauma that his mother hyesung left him after birth.
He may not remember this Situation but Babies can feel it. Furthermore hyesung and dojun Talked about it when he was child.
Its not an excuse but it would explain his reaction
