It might be a translation issue, but for me the way the ML talked to her was very dismissive and belittling. He didn’t seem to treat her like an equal, let alone a rival.
On the FL’s side, she seemed to give in and accept that he was always superior to her. She stopped quipping back and having childish arguments with him, and opted to mostly ignore him.
Again, this is just how I feel and it could totally be a result of mistranslation, but the ‘rivals’ part felt missing in ‘rivals to lovers’.
It’s a mistranslation I just read the official.

Sure, ML is annoying and sometimes being a jerk. But if Nunnaly hated him so much, bet she would ignore him and not even want to think about him at the slightest.
