I have this weird theory... I get this weird feeling that Ruby is their dead child... Their child actually died but then the magic king stole the dead infant's body and and store a very strong mana to the empty vessel....
Or maybe their child (Ruby) is actually alive from the beginning, they just used weird spell to make a corpse from the infant (since ruby can me corpses, that wicked mage most likely can do it too)
