Back in the medieval era, such age gaps were quite common, and it appears that the setting for this story is that time. I approach age gaps with great caution and apply the same logic that existed then when I read it. Otherwise, it would ruin the story. I’m not suggesting that your thoughts are incorrect; I’m simply saying that applying our modern norms and logic to historical events and facts is not entirely fair.

16 and 28 is a very unreasonable age gap. A 16 year old can’t consent and is very much still a child, a 28 year old is very much a grown man
