Omegaverse actually changes a lot from one creator to another and is a little more complicated than guideverse...
But, for a list of good omegaverses
Diamond Dust
Kiss me, Liar
Kiss me if you can
Quo Vadis, Domine? (This one focuses on recessive vs dominant but only what it means socially rather than biologically)
The Secretive XX (When ABO first hits society)
And if you want, I can also just tell you about anything you don't find the answer to in these (based on my own theories about the biology of it, what I see most commonly, etc.)
That's a good idea o(≧▽≦)o That one is also very new and pretty vague imo, so it's best to save that for last!
So basically, omegaverse, like guideverse, is usually considered a type of genetic "disease", which divided humans into three secondary genders; Alpha, Beta, and Omega.
"Alphas" are typically considered the socially dominant secondary gender because they typically have louder pheromones, higher intelligence, and are usually depicted as wealthier and stronger than betas and omegas.
"Omegas" are considered the lowest in society, especially omega men, because they have a gene that effects their reproductive systems and allows them to give birth. The way their pheromones are depicted varies, but they're usually considered "sweeter" than alpha pheromones. Omegas are usually depicted to be low class (due to discrimination) and often working in clubs or multiple very low-wage jobs.
"Betas" are normal humans who have normal biology and are incapable of smelling pheromones.
Alphas and Omegas are considered "natural pairs" because of their biology and pheromones, and are often expected to mate with their most compatible counterpart depending on the story.
Now, to explain recessive and dominant traits.
Socially speaking, it's common for those with the "dominant" omega or alpha to be considered higher status because betas associate dominance with power, more strength, etc.
But, biologically speaking;
Dominant traits:
Project pheromones further and more intensely.
Trigger stronger instinctive responses in others.
Tend to “override” weaker signals in close proximity.
Often associated with physical markers
Recessive traits:
Quieter pheromone output.
More nuanced or layered scent rather than overwhelming.
Often more "targeted" instead of aggressive, which makes it more compatible with someone of a dominant trait.
To explain heats and ruts...
Alphas experience "ruts", and omegas experience "heats", this is a phase that can either be seasonal or triggered by neglecting to take proper medication, hypersexuality, or being around alpha/omega pheromones excessively (a heat can trigger a rut and vice versa).
During this phase, an alpha or omega is in a stage where they are most fertile and instinctual, and they usually take medication for about a week or do the deed with the opposite secondary gender in order to pass it.
Things that vary from story to story include
hyperdomincance/recessiveness, where their pheromones and hormones produce excessively and often cause a lot of health issues or some varient of this
versions that actually show the bad side to being an alpha (omegas abusing their pheromones, societal expectations, etc)
and things like that.
most Japanese mangas have like 2 pages that explain the world and some of the terms for example: https://www.mangago.me/read-manga/a_tough_alpha_wants_to_be_loved_cornered_by_a_young_omega/uu/ibx_chapter-1/pg-1/
but this one is non traditional a/b/o and i would start with reading those panels for basic terms and then moving on to read whatever u like.
if u want a world that’s as confused and as new you are to omegaverse please give the secretive xx a try https://www.mangago.me/read-manga/the_secretive_xx/
Dominant alphas are alphas who carry the dominant gene, and are usually stronger than recessive alphas.
Golden alphas are a pretty new concept, but they are alphas who are capable of turning a beta into an omega by being heavily exposed to their pheromones (especially during sex)
and I'm not 100% sure, but I thing extreme alphas are another term used for hyperdominant alphas, where they produce an excess of hormones and pheromones that can effect both alphas and omegas.
It's part of the mating process! Usually you see it being an alpha who bites the omega first.
Basically a/o couples would typically mark each other once married or even use the mark instead of a ring. It basically tells any other alpha or omega that you're fully taken and in come universes, ignoring that can have legal consequences. Or, it can be used as a relationship trap if nonconsentual. That's a topic that really varies from story to story but the kiss me series is definitely my favorite.
probably my least favorite part of omegaverse o(≧▽≦)o
Knotting works exactly how it would if they were dogs.
it's a part of the male penis called the bulbus glandis, at the base of it
basically it swells during the deed and "locks" the two doing the deed together, basically to increase the chances of the sperm fertilizing the egg.
This
is not possible
in human anatomy o(≧▽≦)o
And yes, crazy to say when the entire genre is biologically impossible, but this one always irks me the most for some reason
well, as a crazy cat lady I didn't even know that dogs actually do that. and yep, this is... weird to say the least.
but I appreciate how they studied anatomy beforehand to make it make sense LOL
are all omegaverse stories about pregnancy and having kids as well? I'm not quite sure what to think about MPREG stories for now

Hi there, I'm new to omegaverse and not quite sure whether I like it or not. I'm looking for a omegaverse Webtoon with some explanations about terms etc. (what's recessive, dominant, heat/rut, knotting etc.)
I know this from guideverse where most of them start with an explanation how the world works, and I was hoping for something similiar.
TIA
