I understood Tei in this chapter. Being away for years and not seeing Shuraka made him think what he think was best for him.

Shuraka, on the other hand, has change. It seems like he's dangerous this time and he would not let Tei go back to Leracal that's why during their journey; he sprayed all those flowers in order for Tei not to go back.

I can sense possessiveness and controlling vibes on his end.

    I think they explained the lore a few chapters ago. They scatter flowers on the road behind the carriage so a bride 'will forget' the road back home and thus will be tied to her husband and new life.
