okay so its been a hot minute since ive read the novel so i might be a bit off in my retelling but imma try to be as in depth as possible. (apologies for any typos and this being hella long)
this arc ends with truyde’s people setting fire to the mansion and yan dying in said fire refusing to give up the item that reveals the secret. however abel learns what the item is and it is the dragon pendant that he gave karas so he goes to meet him in the palace. the trio of abel, melmont, and the butler are reunited and stay in the library melmont work at in the past (i forget the reason but partially is to keep abel hidden while still being in the palace). karas is even more closed off than before so abel comes up with the idea to feign amnesia. he pretends to be confused and scared of everyone but karas so karas can learn to be gentler and kinder (basically relearn everything abel taught him as a child). at the same time they are looking for the pendant and any info about the black potion.
now this part is a little fuzzy but the dinners go on, karas still drinks the black potion and it weakens him however the salt the council is using is a drug that has a very similar affect as the black potion. so norhox goes mad from the salt and kinda blanking on what all happens but im pretty sure he finds abel and figures out he is the true regas. norhox kills a bunch of people and gets himself killed (i dont remember how). truyde finds out about the group in the library hurts them and abel gets himself captured (on purpose) by truyde to see if the his curse will make it so he is willing to help abel (i think). truyde is a sick freak and his version of love is very sadistic and he tries to sa abel. at the same time karas puts into motion the final stage of his plan (truyde is the only one in the council left) so he goes off to deal with that before any real damage comes to abel.
the forest is expanding and consuming everyone and a bunch of things are on fire. abel makes it back to the library with the pendant and then we get backstory on the first dragon and his regas and also the black potion and the council. the black potion is truyde’s blood and is made from eating the previous kings along with the herb that makes it so you dont get sick from eating spoiled/raw meat. so truyde is also immune to most poisons (so the salt didn’t work on him). abel and ashler (who is hurt) go to try an find karas to stop him from killing basically everyone. truyde and karas have their final face off which is mostly just them talking and explaining their big plans. karas use the oils to burn everyone and everything. the reason karas is so powerful is because he has the power of a previous dragon (thats why his eyes turned gray). truyde dies (took long enough) and abel is able to convince karas to not destroy everything, yippie!!
typing this all out makes me realize i desperately need to reread the novel bc i am not doing it justice. there is some epilogue after everything that happens, of them basically just restoring order to the world. abel who is still believed to have lost his memories reveals he gained them all back which karas is not happy about because he wanted to use abel’s blank memories to convince him that they did 18+ stuff together (that sounds so bad-). and they do end up doing some 18+ stuff after everything. oh and there is side stories!! which im not going to dive into since i already wrote a lot.

Omg ilysm. This is such a big reveal to me and I love it cuz I’m pretty sure there will be another season for all u just explained. But I can’t wait for tryude’s death. And he’s a cannibalist?? Wth
this is by far the slowest and most boring arc of the story but it gets better i swear! if i had to guess i think this arc will wrap up in 1-3 more chapters and then we will finally be getting back to karas and abel!
but do be warned it wont be going back to the light heartedness of the previous season, the story itself is pretty dark and it gets darker. and this is a slow burn romance and the romance isn’t sole focus of this story. so there is still lots more backstory and long winded explanations to come but believe me when i tell you it is all very worth it. this story is by far one of my favorites and has such a great plot and execution and the artist is doing a wonderful job at adapting the novel. sadly things are still going to be getting worse for our boys before they get better T^T
