it would be nice if authors didn't require their protag to be mentally retarded levels of "dense" in order to string along the "no one gets ahead" harem aspects. This author seems to LOVE the whole "let's get close to having some progress actually happen, and then slap it out of your hand and onto the floor" style of storytelling.
