fair assumption, but there were several of them and he's had like 3 knee surgeries. it makes it hard to fight when you're worrying about being able to stand for the rest of your life.

I think it's more like it's not safe to start a fight when he's hiding the kid from them. The kid might react or attempt to help somehow.
perhaps but he was a competitive athlete, not a boxer or fighter, i think it’s more realistic to think that what he learned in his athletic career doesn’t align with true street fights
I mean, realistically could he have not beat them up? He would definitely get hurt but surely he could take them all and not end up kidnapped
