my god i read a few panels on instagram and i broke down so hard without warning :(( it reminded me of this one manga where a gay couple could only register themselves as adoptive son and father because same-sex marriage wasn't legal. and by doing that, any hospital settlements, any financial concerns, etc. would involve both partners. (imagine relying in your lover's blood-related family because you had no right to make decisions for them while theyre in the hospital, because in paper youre basically strangers??) in the end, they grew old together. the older one died first and his lover handled all his affairs; the funeral, the will, the house, their graves, etc. because in legal paper, he was the man's son :((
