The premise of this was interesting, however the story falls flat when you take into consideration that Kim Shin, the black hair mc, showed clear stalkerish tendencies, possibly worse than the antagonist. Kim Shin places cameras near Song Yeon-woo’s, the blondish mc, apartment to stalk him. While yes it was what allowed him to save Song Yeon-woo, at the same time he’s been doing that for a long time. Then all his actions in the story were directly tied to him trying to get with Song Yeon-woo. It leads to a very odd dynamic, when we also don’t know much about either’s relationship with others. Take the mc, we know he took a 3 year gap period, but didn’t he make any friends? Was he a loner all the time, while it was implied, I find it hard to believe he never even had fun with a coworker when we see that he isn’t exactly shy. This brings me to another point of contention, there was too much exposition dump, we learn this and that from seeing characters randomly and it wasn’t really gradual. The story ended up having to be explained through exposition dumps, which was quite tiring since it lacked any actual building. We would just see a character, then see their backstory. Song Yeon-woo’s mom and aunt, for example, we see them for one or maybe more chapters and never see them again. Which makes sense considering the time constraint, but really everything felt rushed. A huge example would’ve been the fact we find out that the two mc’s are dating through a flash back, when yeah that did work, it didn’t feel as satisfying. Plus, in the end, we revert back to the typical dynamic. The top is all possessive over the bottom and just wants him to be near him, need him, and love him. The top ends up wanting the bottom to rely on him, and that ends up being the end. It was lackluster for sure considering it felt like Song Yeon-woo was building up to possibly find acceptance in being near alphas and not being afraid, but that was never established. He only wasn’t really afraid towards Kim Shin. And that’s normal too, since a lover is supposed to be a place of comfort, but it still makes the story lack any actual character development. Which is a shame since this could have been really interesting had they gone with that route. However, at the end this was really nice fluff story, so if you enjoyed it I’m glad, and I enjoyed it too tbh. It had some strong points, since it did make the top, Kim Shin, more gentle and kind than some others. And I do really appreciate how Song Yeon-woo was trying to fight at the end. That part did make me feel really happy, and maybe in the end that counts as his character development. It’s just a shame to me we didn’t see that actually go anywhere and it felt like the status quo of ‘weak bottom needs to rely on strong top to grow’. Which I don’t really like. But I can’t say the story had nothing to offer, since it was really nice to read and relax!
