I really don't understand these comments, the ml is confident in his work and has never once treated the MC badly. Yes, he's critical when it comes to his job which is completely normal and he doesn't blur the lines between work and outside relationships which isn't something I can say for the MC, he's not selfish, he's given the MC plenty of space to think and challenges him to be better when they work. I'm not hating on the MC, I would be angry and doubtful too if someone lied to me but the ml has proved again and again how sincere he is.
