But he said he wanted to love her "for the rest of his life"... That's way too much premeditated devotion... Unless he caused her some permanent injury or sth, back when they were kids, what could he have possibly done to her, to warrant that extent of guilt?
From my understanding of ch.1 he said something to her about not wanting to be her 'gal'
but maybe he laughed about her behind her back (to hide his emotions from his friends) and she over heard so he felt extremely guilty
I'm worried if he actually loves her or if he just wants to make up for his 'past'
