Yeah I fully dropped it when they pulled out the straightener
They could've just have drawn it as unkept curly but instead they draw it with beautiful curls too, they could've just adjust the hair like its getting in the way of the face or draw some split ends (because split ends are some of my hair problems too) like artist should've at least draw her with eyebags instead if they want to picture the MC as ugly with great transformation.
It's pretty fucked up that they consider curly hair to make someone ugly. And it wasn't even curly. It just looked like a person that curled their hair tightly. I wonder if author views people with curly hair as ugly and unrefined. It's giving racist undertones.
