It's not a spoiler but my own thoughts. I think he seems really obsessed with the thought of being a God or God-like. Monster Mugo is the "beast", Jerk Mugo is the human, Lord Mugo is the "God". This reminds me of Taoist teachings and the division of the soul. After death, three parts of the soul remain, the "ethereal" souls, they are: Heavenly, Earthly and Life-Destiny.
