Read the novel first. The donghua will be too complicated to understand if you watch it without any prior knowledge since it's a bit too fast, or unless you would like to analyze each words they utter, otherwise, it'll seem like rumblings of a god.

I watched the donghua first the first season is complete and is said to be getting a new season with 30ep in 2027 but it always good to read before watching since somtimes the book has something the watchable version dosent have
