I think he loves him because of the way ML loves if you know what I mean, like they never interacted together, but mc always watched ML and saw how he love that friend, and without knowing it he fell for him, it's like when you watch a movie and fall for the character or when you read something and get attached... Well that's how I see it
I don't get how the mc even loves the ml? First he barely knows him, second they only have very few and barely memorable interactions and some of those he is rude as hell and third the ml never remembers him after they interact, how can you hold a crush for so long for someone like that? Whatever
