lengthy review

in case you are wondering if you should pick this story up, here is my long ass review because man do i have some shit to say.

to start off, the premise was wonderful. we have the king who is loved by everyone x the minister who seems to be the only one who doesn’t care for the king (despite him loving albert just hiding it)

tbh, i still don’t fucking understand the magic shit or kreis/ life force bs they were telling us. idk what i expected from a 34 chapter manhwa but the ending felt rushed and out of place. i think everything went well up until the regression. while i didn’t mind the regression, i expected it to be a development of albert’s feelings. the man who was so cold to him was now so vulnerable. he might develop some kind of interest towards the man who used to be so firm and strict. yet what do we get? some uncomfortable sexual scenes with michel (who is practically a child now because of the regression) that was yucky. but what was more yucky? the disgusting unnecessary rape scene.

he binds heide with his magic and forces him to watch as he rapes michel despite michel saying no. and of course, as korean authors do, michel isn’t rejecting in a sense that he feels violated but more of in the sense that heide is watching. it feels like the author’s rape fantasy being fulfilled. of course, i can’t say “rape victims should hate being raped” because it feels like it’s not my place but the author wrote this rape scene out like it wasn’t rape at all. sure michel was saying “no” but the artist drew him blushing and moaning like…how are we supposed to take his rejection seriously.

and the weirdest part aside from the rape, this feels like the author just abandoned all of albert’s character development. up until this point, we know albert as someone who is loved by everyone. he is a wise, smart, and social king who would rather die than see his kingdom taken by another. while he does possess the dignity and authority as a king would, he did not seem like the sort of character to rape someone, especially when they did not seem to like him. that who scene was so disappointing.

what’s even more disappointing is that this rape scene is never addressed and the king orders michel to just love him and michel just…obeys?? albert went a whole 180 and somehow because this obsessed yandere?? when the entire manhwa, he has not shown an inking of romantic interest. he has only been slightly intrigued because michel does not suck up to him but it wasn’t any feelings of love so for him to want michel to love him all of a sudden and keep him for himself felt very out of character. this would’ve been an amazing slowburn but it’s a chaotic mess of a manhwa. such a disappointment. i wouldn’t even say this is a good “toxic” manhwa. we barely had any material for it to be toxic. it was just one rape scene and then they get together ? huh ?

if you want to waste your time, go ahead. for someone who wants to read an intricate piece of work, skip. even for someone who wants to read toxic yaoi, skip. this bs doesn’t even fulfill the conditions for a toxic yaoi slop manhwa.
