I do wonder if the ML actually liked the MC when they met or if he was just messing with him because he was more interesting than the rest of their classmates. I do wonder at what point the ML's feelings turned to obsession. Also, I feel like the fact that they were always in the same homeroom class was orchestrated by the ML. Because the MC mentioned they were in the same class for all of high school and normally you get assigned a new homeroom every year.
