i kinda think the same but tei has a low self esteem so no wonders that he thinks that he’s put aside. After all we are seeing this through his pov, not shuraka’s, we don’t even know what he was up through all the years of silence.
I was thinking this exact same thing!!! Since shuraka does seem to be on the kinder side of politics? and understands what could happen to the poor ladies/men if he were to reject them and send them back(￣∇￣")
Oh for sure! This all looks really bad on Tei’s end, poor guy! I mean, from his perspective, of course Shuraka would be with all these beautiful people! I wonder if we’ll get some more clues next chapter or if we’ll have to wait a bit more….

exactly, all can be casualties or deaths. Like Shuraka’s half brother who died (i’m shitty w the names sorry), he surely died while serving shuraka and trusting him w his younger brother’s life.
My guess about the concubines being older is that perhaps some are half sisters or even the previous emperor’s concubines that Shuraka has protected from being thrown out/killed after he became emperor. Or maybe he really is into older lovers, who knows? If the advisors throw candidates at him, I’m sure he’d feel like it’d be dangerous to reject them all. Better to keep them safe in their own palace and not touch them rather than send them home where they might be punished for being rejected by him. Lots of personal speculation here
