tbh I noticed that only a couple of 5 star rating would give it a higher rating than normal so I just stopped trusting them and instead would just read some of the comments while keeping a balance of seeing how it truly is while also not spoiling the whole thing for me so I can enjoy the surprise :/

So after migrating here a few months back, I was pretty lost on interpreting the scores. It felt like something would be a 9.1 and then I go in the comments and everyone is agreeing that it’s hot garbage. On [insert previous site I used here] I had a pretty strict “don’t bother with anything below an 8” rule, occasionally reading things scored lower if the plot or art or something caught my attention. But I found that the stuff I would read using that rule would almost always be high quality. So what was a girl to do when faced with an entirely different rating system and culture?
Basically, I kept my rule in place. “Nothing below an 8” was upheld and it was business as usual. But it turns out, a lot of things that would’ve never made the cut on [site redacted] are scored above an 8 here. And I’ve actually found a ton of things I really like that I probably never would’ve read otherwise, even a couple new favorites!
So if you’re like me and sometimes think to yourself “people really will just give anything 5/5 on here,” take a step back and consider that this fact could lead you to plenty of great stories that would’ve never come up on your radar otherwise. Flawed as it may be, one girl’s trash is another girl’s treasure and vice versa, so I hope you can come to love the rating system here as I have.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
