I know that the "best" solution would be to communicate, but do you really think Tei would feel better after saying what is on his mind? He will just feel like he is burdening Shuraka. Like let's look at his character and the beginning of chapter 19 where the author literally TELLS us that Tei feels the need to PROVE himself. Having to just ask Shuraka about this will just rub salt in the wound because he himself cannot do anything. The nature of their relationship has such a stark power difference where Tei is basically helpless. He knows he cannot be an equal to Shuraka, but he wants to at least be of help to Shuraka.
Yes, Tei is misunderstanding Shuraka, but at the same time, I feel like it falls more on Shuraka to be transparent from the beginning. Imagine your husband rejects your advances.... EVEN AT THE COST of his own health?????
I just wanted to say this because it's clear that Tei has literally been UPROOTED from his life (once again!) after ten years of NO CONTACT. He literally has no support system and is isolated. Even with Shuraka, how can he feel comfortable to confide in anyone??? How can he put trust into Shuraka? If Shuraka is rejecting his advances, but still brings him back to a far away empire, is it just out of obligation? Like..........I can't blame Tei at all
