Thank you. Like I understand that Riftan is a product of those times. But what makes me hate this story is the way their marketing it as romantic and that Riftan is a green flag. Like pls shut it. People are defending him, Defending the fact that everytime Maxi is communicating with him his thoughts are having sex with her. This story makes the sex so mundane and boring because its so tone deaf. Like imagine a Your girlfriend is talking about her struggles How she's feeling all the time and what hurts her, And as she asks you to speak up, You tell her, " You don't know how much I'm holding myself back "

Maxi is absolute queen stg. She might not be strong in the riftan aspect but, she's so fucking strong in her own ways.
Forget it even being a bare minimum its just disgusting and weird to disregard the way she pours her heart at you and the only thing you think as she is doing so is sex. Yeah Riftan is a product of his time but it doesn't excuss his BS. They try to act as if he's the better option at those times. But he's just the lesser of 2 evils. Riftan being the way he is can be understood if you at it from another perspective, but there is no way of justifying it
Thats why I love her. I honestly would rather read the story if it WERE ONLY about Maxi and finding herself

People keep talking about maxi being weak which is crazy because she’s genuinely so strong physically with her magic and mentally for insuring all those challenges and almost dying several times in her life. Gosh forbid a girl have a stutter!! Also I think if I were abused my whole life by men and then get married off to a man whose apartently the best knight in the world and is the strongest man and he screamed at me constantly for defying him I would think maxi is still strong for still defying him over and over again and having the balls to continue to do it over and over again because I would be paralyzed w fear that he would physically hurt me or divorce me or cast me out but he’s very powerful. Also I keep seeing people talk about how RAF is toxic and I do agree but he is also a product of his time that’s how society taught men in this era to view women. As people to be protected and taken care of and how their role is suppose to be like a trophy wife yk and I wish raf would change from this idea he has of her. Btw maxi does have a back bone! A lot bigger than most she denies the orders of the most powerful man in the world she sneaks around constantly and puts herself at risk to save other people her whole life has been to cater around other people and she’s currently learning to stand up for herself which she has been doing!! I hate to sympathize with Raf like I hate to guys like there’s no reasons for his actions and immaturity a lot of the time but I understand why he can be so upset sometimes like if I had a beautiful wife I would never want to see her go near a war zone like ever!! And then that same wife almost die multiple times at the same war zone like hell no!! But who am I to control someone and tell someone what to do yk but I wouldn’t love the idea. I wish everyone was nicer to each other I love Ruth a ton and I hate raf cuz wdym she can’t learn magic r u dumb it’s only gna protect her like who are you to say what she can and can’t do but wtv the stories not as bad as the comments say is it bad I find it kinda realistic for the time period it’s set in def not a perfect beautiful love story tho
