Basically the grand dukes are the kings of the empires devoured by that monster. The planets and the people of that planets, including the kings/grand dukes, are already all dead but they are "resurrected" to play the game since they want to destroy the monster that ate their world.

I respectfully answer that chapter 85 starts halfway in chapter 178 and continues in chapters 179-180, more or less. However I warn you that the novel has a lot more details and scenes than represented in the comic and could be a tad confusing without previous context. Hope you enjoy!
