I understand both. One felt like he had no choice, and he didn’t just abandon her in the middle of nowhere. He made sure she had a home and left, even if it was still cruel. The other felt betrayal and resentment for years because her own father left her so ‘easily’.
The forgiveness brought a tear to my eye. Man. This author is a goat. I know this is going to be peak. It’s not so easy to make a reader cry shortly into the story.
