Iirc her stepmom wasn’t all there, mentally speaking. She had some sort of obsession with Violet being part of their family, but I can’t remember clearly why. There’s dozens of spoiler pages on NovelUpdates if you have the patience to sift through them. (A lot of it is discussions, but I think the spoilers were indexed on the first page).
That father is complete trash and I wish Violette would snap at him and reveal how he’s the one misery that created all these issues. However, why would Violette’s stepmother be sad that Violette would be leaving and would never return to the house which means she would never see her?
