This is actually quite a believable dilemma imo, which sucks, because now I can’t be upset about stupid miscommunication.
Even if Tei was an amazing communicator, what is he supposed to even ask??
“Hey Shuraka, I’m jealous you slept with other people in your harem, especially the one dude in there, get rid of them please”?
He can’t do that because 1. He doesn’t fully believe Shuraka is as in love with him as he claims and 2. He knows that the ruler of Arnata traditionally has a harem and sleeps with multiple concubines in addition to his queen. He’d never challenge established traditions and rules like that (yet at least lol)
On Shuraka’s end it seems like this situation is giving bad parallels to his mom’s relationship with his dad and even him, so he’s going down the “omg my spouse is here reluctantly, I’m just like my dad route”, and if he believes that, there’s no way he’d try to talk it out with Tei who supposedly hates his guts.
Does it suck to watch? Yes. Could it realistically happen in this setting? Also yes! If only they had mind reading powers rip.
The first route I would take is the fact he built a fucking harem and I wasn’t even allowed in the fucking country and I’m his boo thang! I would have slaughtered them all and tossed the heads at him in anger going grrrrr
These are literally my thoughts exactly! Even if Shuraka’s goal in sleeping with the concubine was entirely so he didn’t hurt Tei the next time, it’s still fucked up. They’re both stuck in the cycle of their own upbringing and trauma. We’d better buckle up for a long and bumpy ride.
