Poor Shuraka

Yes, yes, I know everybody is fixated on him whether he slept with a concubine or not... but to me, the amount of trauma that child must have been through to even find the sole soul he finds solace in murkied in between his nightmares with his own mother rejecting him... I do understand Tei's worries, but if you think about it logically (for that type of environment), there is no reason for an emperor to reject a concubine, especially when he's expected to pour as many children as possible, and yet Shuraka makes sure he comes to Tei's side every night. I find even that to be respectable. I feel like people expect a picture-perfect relationship in an environment where harems are a normality. If their relationship was "happily ever after" from the beginning, we wouldn't have anything to read lol. I feel like the sheer terror in Shuraka's eyes gives us way more to think about when it comes to his personality than the fact that he smelled like a concubine...

Logically speaking, a concubine son needs support and influence to raise and survive, how do you think most emperor gain it? Taking concubine from different part of the country, that should be obvious even to an idiot. Trauma this trauma that, shu trauma and problem is bigger than tei

Logically speaking, nobody is denying how emperors gain power or how concubine politics work that part is obvious. What I was talking about wasn’t politics, it was basic communication.
You’re explaining how a concubine’s son survives in a palace, but that still doesn’t answer a very simple point: if someone you care about asks you a direct yes or no question, avoiding it only creates more misunderstanding. Trauma can explain behaviour, but it doesn’t magically remove responsibility.
Also, reducing everything to ‘trauma this trauma that’ while at the same time calling people idiots doesn’t really strengthen the argument ,it just makes it sound emotional rather than logical.
I’m not asking for a perfect emperor or a perfect relationship. I’m just saying honesty would have solved half the problem before it even started. That’s not unrealistic, it’s just basic respect.

I wasn't expecting to start such a heated debate. And I really wasn't discussing anything political either.
The unfortunate truth is that for people living with traumas, anything you ask them mid-traumatic episode will result in no answer. You could ask them their name and you would not get any response. I do understand why you would consider this to be "basic communication," but the truth is Shuraka built his own expectations about Tei (his "saviour"), and when those expectations deviate from the one person he finds comfort in, the whole "I'm alone in the world," maybe even "my mother was right, I am a monster" monologue would start spiraling in his head. And when things start to spiral, it's amazing if you get any conversation through...
It would be nice if we could live in a world without trauma. However, if you ask me, Shuraka's trauma is the exact flavor which makes him so lovable despite the fact that, if you think about it, he planned (and who knows what else) his entire family line's wipeout -.-' ... And witnessed many of them sitting in a pool of blood... It would be weird if that didn't cause trauma.

I understand what you’re saying about his trauma, and I’m not ignoring that part at all. His past clearly explains why he reacts the way he does, and honestly that’s what makes the character interesting in the first place.

What I was trying to say wasn’t that the story should be “picture-perfect” or that an emperor living in a harem system should behave like a modern boyfriend. I know that environment is completely different, and realistically speaking, relationships there were never simple or emotionally safe.

My point was just that the emotional tension in the story isn’t only coming from politics or trauma , a lot of it comes from miscommunication. And that’s why some readers react more strongly to the honesty part than the concubine part. It’s not about expecting perfection, it’s about expecting clarity between two people who clearly care about each other.
Also, I’m not dismissing the fact that he comes back to Tei every night. That is something meaningful, and it shows that she matters to him. I just think both things can exist at the same time his trauma can explain his behaviour, but the lack of communication can still frustrate readers.
I wasn’t trying to attack the character or start a fight. I was just looking at the relationship from a communication point of view rather than only a trauma point of view.(⌒▽⌒)

By the way, I'm not dismissing the lack of communication. It's clearly there. Although for me it's like they're trying to communicate in 2 different languages, which is kind of funny. I think I've read so many BLs by now that this part of the story just doesn't affect me anymore ':D But that "one step to a panic attack"-face that Shuraka had felt like someone suddenly cut the oxygen. I guess that's why for me that felt more urgent that the rest.
