how did ian go back to the "homophobic gang members who never liked him" when said homophobic gang members are dead? chiwoon and yangji are not homophobic. & wdym why did chris suffer he was litr the biggest piece of shit ever? did u even read the story? and wdym ians been tjs sextoy for 20 years when they were litr 15 when they met 20 years ago? so much more wrong too but that depends on how u interpret the story & we clearly do it differently so not gonna argue on that, but considering u have the very basics of the story wrong ummmm. yeah.
I loved reading wet sand and still think that it's an amazing story overall, with beautiful art as well, but I agree completely with your comment. If this is really the ending, it makes absolutely no sense at all. And not because I liked Jo more, but for the writing from the beginning to nearly the end. TJ did so many bad things to Ian... He had to give up his dream of motorbikes for the "accident" he had because of TJ where he even broke his leg, just because TJ didn't want him to leave. He kept the scar on his face just so Ian could feel guilty and not leave him. There's a full chapter (81 or 82 if I'm not mistaken) where the two of them discuss about that. TJ was just overall manipulative to him and never once did something Ian wanted, all for power and glory. Ian endured all those years of prison because of TJ. Him returning with him cancelled everything we read until now, nothing changed. TJ had no redemption arc whatsoever. He just found everything ready, a house to go to, just because Ian did it. Jo deserved better, and Ian as well. I understand that toxic relationships are not easy to overcome, even more after 20 years, but here I expected the opposite to happen after everything we read. There was absolutely no growth, it would've had more sense just Ian leaving and being alone. I never write comments anywhere, but I had to say something about it.
you jays what I pick my arguments carefully lmao. Most of the people who are angry with this ending didn’t actually understand what they were reading. The read this with hopes and dreams of Jo being the one regardless of who Ian and TJ were as individuals. They made a list of mistakes and flaws and compared it to Jo’s list of flaws and decided that there was only one path the story should take, regardless of what the characters have always shown they wanted and strived for.
we have to believe that as an ex gang boss will not be involved in the gang (systematically homophobic, with homophobic members) ever again? we’re not getting side stories bc there’s no actual peaceful future for them, chris was a pathetic man who was suffered from his choices, tj never did, you don’t want to talk about their first time and yeah i do believe an abuser like tj sees his plaything as a sex object since the start
I can feel how young some of you are by comments like these. The man is 34-35. His character growth began in season 2 and finished in the time before the 2-year timeskip. Some of you miss that he has character growth because you were flooded with so much flashbacks that you got stuck in the past instead of seeing the characters for who they were currently.

The concept of this story ending with Ian, the main character, not slightly growing/healing and going back to point 0 by going back not only to the homophobic gang members who never liked him and his manipulative abuser but confessing first, paying for their house and waiting for this mass murderer to finish his prison sentence (somehow only 2 years?), like on top of everything ian is doing all the work? what was all that talk about this not being the life Ian wants, about choosing himself at last, about no going back to how things were, about being an honest man living an honest life ? Where’s the growth? Why did Jo, Ian, Toby (she lost her baby ffs), Chris and many more suffer while tj didn’t even once face any consequences minus the ridiculous short time in jail, which is the bare minimum for all the lives he ruined ? Hell Jo and Ian even saved this almost 40 years old man’s life before, he’s been narratively protected every time and for what? Why didn’t tj work his ass off for ian, why didn’t he apologize even once, why didn’t he admit everything he did to ruin him, why didn’t we see an ounce of his development, why did we only see them go back and forth and fuck for 100 chapters without resolving communication or genuine affection? Just because they’re this dark and complex trauma bonded pair, who don’t need words or actions to prove their undying toxic love? How can one betray their own writing to make tjian turn out to have a good/happy ending and not the miserable cycle of pain and abuse it has been portrayed as and still IS, which would’ve been narratively more accurate? What will Ian continue to be but Tj’s isolated and personal sextoy and emotional punching bag as he’s been for 20 years? A joke is what it all is
