Wow this is the first time I’ve felt the need to comment on this site in many years lol. All the people defending Carlo and saying Adrian deserved this death obviously haven’t read the same story as I did yes I do feel for Carlo but what he’s become is NOT Adrian’s fault. He never once alluded to having any sort of feeling towards him nor does he have to. Yes Adrian’s lack of empathy is an issue but he’s a dragon. Probably the only one as we’ve seen so far. He’s incredibly old and isolated because he’s a dragon. It’s unfair to hold him to the same moral standard because he’s so different from humans. No I’m not excusing how he treats humans, but he’s never once purposefully hurt any human for his games(none of his games started because of a desire to hurt)The soldiers are the exception because they knew what they were getting into. I can’t say that what he did then was right, but it’s obvious as we’ve read so far that that decision he made affects him even now. Somewhere deep down he regrets it because it’s haunted him even subconsciously. And it’s obvious he’s beginning to change. We can’t expect someone who’s lived millennia upon millennia to feel as strongly as those who live not even half that. Adrian is a very very complex character and his morality isn’t black and white. He also sees these events as games, short periods of entertainment to help cure his boredom. So why would he have any real empathy for something he sees as artificial? Obviously he’s beginning to see that the lives he’s mingled with are real, whether he realizes it or not. It’s happening. I’ll stop here cus I could go on and on defending this dragon.
