Honestly they could've handle him pulling out of the mission better. Sure they didn't expect her to go on a determined manhunt for him, but they should have staged an accident or something while the two were on an outing and have the husband "die" and stage witnesses and hospital staff telling her that he's dead or have him act his butt off to say his final words to her. That way she'd at least have some semblance of closure. Poor girl is going through it.
