if you actually cared to pay attention, jo wasnt “included for nothing” his depth is exactly what makes ian choosing tj matter. his purpose was to be a catalyst, if jo was shallow, there would be zero weight to that decision. the whole point is that ian had a healthier option and still didnt take it thats character writing, not bad writing
