i think the main reason for her ugliness in the beginning is her bruises, but they eventually get healed as she leaves her household
the art draws her rather prettily. however, side character's consistently call her "ugly" and point out her unattractive features; the main characters do not point out her appearance. so far, she hasn't been "fixed" where she goes through a mega transformation and suddenly everyone believes she's the most beautiful person on the planet. there are girls introduced that are visibly more beautiful (in the traditional manhwa beauty way) than the fl, and she acknowledges this
iirc (i havent read it) the novel depicts her as someone who is truly ugly, and fl is a bit of an unreliable narrator ;;;
interesting! i didn’t know if they were bruises or just how the artist wanted to portray some sort of birth mark she had that would’ve made her “ugly” :) thank you! i think i’ll let this marinate and see how it ends before i read it. it’s always just a pet peeve when a character is meant to be ugly and they’re just. not.
Bruises fade overtime. The reason why she's called ugly is due to her freckles, if I'm not mistaken. Since it seems like that's what she'll focus on when looking at a mirror, of course not explicitly saying it's because of that. She's actually pretty, for me anyway. The ML doesn't really have an opinion regarding her appearance, no indication he saw her as ugly. Though I bet he doesn't think of her as ugly, contrary to what others and what she thinks about herself.

before i read, is the mc actually “ugly”? i see she has like bruises in the first chapters but does she actually keep those in later chapters and she doesn’t get “fixed”?
