I agree. As a westener woman it's so aggravating and almost foreign how so many asian authors write their female leads as weak-minded and dependent on the MLs.
From my understanding, asian countries are quite conservative. You are a failure if you are not married, especially women. And a lot of women stop working once they get married and become housewives. I mean wuuaaat??

I think this reflects in asian novels and manwhas. As in, without a husband, a woman is nothing. A husband is all a woman needs, so she needs to hold on to him. A wife has to stay with her husband. No matter how much of an asshole he is.
The west was like that once too. I think it will take the asian countries another 20 years to catch up on feminism.
A quick anectode:
I once read some comments from Korean readers during a chasing arc in another story. They ALL anticipated FL getting caught and cheered the abuser on to catch her quickly!
That was so weird and eye-opening to me...
Whereas whenever I read a toxic romance and we get to the chasing arc, I always cheer for the one running away and hope they won't get caught by their abuser, and all of the mangago commentors do that as well...
... them asian readers are really something else. Very foreign to me.

patriarchy is something, self esteem is another imo. I 'understand' most of the situations because i understand that they're still chained to that ideology but for someone to say you have to endure abuse just because they're woman is just inhumane by today's standards, are they in old regime perhaps? i don't think so
I'm not really mad about the ml, I'm mad about the fl. Girl, the guy forgot you, abandoned you, let you live as a servant when you were born and raised as a noble lady (not really but he doesn't know that) and is trying to rob your land while divorcing you because he got interested in another girl and after all of this, you are still interested on him? GIRL NO. Do asian authors have no concept of self esteem?
