i read up to side 8 but i don’t think i can stomach another ten chapters. i will say, this is MY opinion and if you’re triggered over MY review of a story that i read, you got better things to do. solid 4/10, and tbh i think i’m being generous.
the greatest tragedy about this manhwa is that the author couldn’t balance between comedy and angst. i fear with stories including a yandere ml and a toxic dark romance, it’s either ALL or nothing. i loved the premise. i indulge in toxic stories and toxic mls IF they’re written well. i feel like the author could’ve written a wonderful toxic story if they STUCK to the toxic themes and not dismiss the toxicity with humor. we have the emperor killing basically rael’s other half: daniel and throwing their kingdom into chaos, we have him imprisoning rael and isolating him but ohhh nooo like he’s not that bad because he just wants rael’s attention and like rael likes him so they can have a lot of sex and it’s completely okay.
i personally believed the story should have ended when rael jumped off the cliff. i love toxic stories with unhappy endings, but i can also appreciate stories where the protagonists get together granted the author addresses the problems with their dynamics. like rael is not a bad character, i like him but for someone who dedicated his whole life to daniel, i just felt that him eventually giving in to the ml was so fucking weak. like i get it, you love him but he quite literally killed the people you love….i wish there was more resistance but rael fell in love so quickly with someone who essentially ruined his life. do not trust people who say they’re both freaks. this is a perpetrator x victim who eventually gave in. rael was NOT freaky at all whatsoever. i just felt bad the entire time.
i know there’s ppl who are gonna jump me saying that they love this story and that it’s not supposed to be taken seriously cus it’s a comedy but is it a crime for me to expect an mc with more of a backbone after the ml killed the ppl he loved, imprisoned him, and chased after him like a fucking debt collector?
i was just expecting something more serious and this story was a huge disappointment. the only reason i kept reading was because i thought rael was gonna fight back harder but to see them get married in the end was disappointing. tbh, the ml was a horrible yandere too. i did not care for his character PLUS he fell in love at first sight is a weak excuse. like what else did you like about rael besides his face? every time i thought we were gettinging somewhere, the mc pulls out the “is it crazy i still love him” bs. yes, i know rael and daniel’s whole dynamic was that rael needed to choose himself in the end but why choose the worst man possible? it wasn’t what i expected and im putting down a review for ppl similar to me.
also say someone saying that this story isn’t for normies and this is a “man sacrificing his love for the world” vs “man sacrificing the world for his love” but like no lol. homie killed his soul brother and imprisoned him. how is that sacrificing the world for his love when he killed the things his love cared about. and i wouldn’t consider rael a man who sacrifices his love for the world cus he still married the emperor in the end…how did he sacrifice his love?
if you enjoy stockholm syndrome with an emphasis in comedy, i guess you’ll enjoy this. but for someone like me who wanted something more serious, hard pass
