Oh yeah, I think you're right about the cruelty - kids learn to be empathetic, seems like he never had that lesson in the first place.
He gives of cat-stuck-in-human-form, no conscience, no remorse, no understanding of evil/good, and yet all the curiosity and wonder of a kid.
Genuinely scary character, bc you might even like him right before he smushes your head into a paste because you misplaced a fork.
