Novel spoilers: I believe dat Elko was kept alive intentionally and brainwashed by Galico to spread rumors and increase Alfonso's hatred towards Ariadne and praise Lariessa. Afaik, his schemes are gonna get debunked soon since one has caught on to it and noticing the pattern would not be an issue; after knowing this he'd get death sentence from Alfonso.
to my understanding the real reason he doesn't fw her is because she's the reason he lost his eye & arm after he had to take the blame of Alphonso killing the one who tried to assault her.. there is probably also whatever reason he said which would line up with what happened to him, in a way
