When you look for it, you see all the signs

Rereading this, the tone of the story is happy and joyful and yet there is so many sentences and topics within the story that hint that the future is an unfortunate end or in this case, a not so “happily ever after”
I’ve compiled some things that stuck out to me and what what they mean potentially…
- chapter 7, #SevenSpingWeeds “one day he’ll realize this relationship is limiting and throw me away like a weed”. This sentence is weird to me because it’s kinda random. It feels like it’s trying to tell you something but doesn’t tell you enough to really get a definitive idea on what it means. It makes me wonder, why is he saying this?
-chapter 11, #TheUsualPlease “I’ve always given you everything…your favorite changed from melon soda to cherries… I haven’t changed at all”. This sentence stands out b/c of its juxtaposition(look this up if you don’t know what this is). It’s a small comment that may seem irrelevant but I feel like this comment has a grander meaning for the seme.
-chapter 12, #Light “but you’re not like that, you’re strong as always as you don’t like me… the stronger I get the weaker I become… he is my last love”. In this context, seme is saying that uke’s strength to face the problem head on causes seme to want to follow him and also face it head on(this is from my understanding). What really makes this statement so weird to me is the last thing he says. His last sentence “he is my last love” this statement here is ment to emphasize his lifelong loyalty to uke, but I question the way it was worded because it could also be interpreted as “even though we aren’t together anymore, I could never love anyone more than you”.
-chapter 9, #Almost god “will the world change first? Or will it end first?… will I be a millionaire first? Or will you leave first?” Similarly to #SevenSpringWeeds it’s random but seems to be hinting something very important. The ideas talked about are parallels and contrasting ideas. The seme asks these questions not because he expects and answer but because he is uncertain.
-chapter 8, (the cover page, February). In that cover we can see both seme and uke sitting on a fense. The uke is pointing to a balloon. This is most definitely a reference to the famous “Girl with Balloon” Mural created by Banksy. Banksy’s work “girl with ballon” depicts a young girl in black-and-white reaching for a drifting, heart-shaped red balloon, symbolizing lost innocence, hope, or fleeting love. I believe the mangaka knew exactly what they were doing when they chose to draw something similar.
-chapter 2, (the cover page, August). In that cover we can only see uke, and uke is holding the hand of who we can only assume seme. They are surrounded in a field of sunflowers. But, why sunflower? It’s because Sunflowers can symbolize unwavering faith, loyalty, adoration, and longevity due to their habit of tracking the sun. But, why is seme cut out of the picture? Well, this is just my hypothesis but I believe that because the story we are reading from is from seme’s perspective he is like those sunflowers, always watching uke(his sun). Either that or maybe the opposite, uke is like one of those sunflowers always watching seme(his sun).
-chapter 10, (cover page, April). In the cover we see uke and seme holding hands and walking along the beach. Seme looks towards the land, while Uke looks to the sea. But why? Why are they looking away from each other and not towards each other? I’m not sure how much this could mean but it also feels like it’s also not insignificant.

-anyways, this all comes together to make me believe that the end we want for them may not be the end they will get after all. If you have differing thoughts on certain things, please do say? I’m so curious about how other interpretated things

Yessss. I know!! It felt diabolical to keep all this underlying symbolism and meanings all to myself. This mangaka has done such an amazing job considering that this is their dubute(first) work. I cooked so hard with the cover pages too! (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
