I think in the earlier parts of their life they weren’t so as punishment of the mc forcing the string connection in the last life they couldn’t be one in this lifetime but the rock or whatever ig found their love to be genuine and pure so after the ultimate sacrifice they had to do like forget the other ig the rock used that as confirmation that they have a actual soulmate connection, so allowed fate to bring them together on its accord not by the mcs I could be wrong but I think that’s it.
