Ugh. I hate stories like this.

It's the typical gay man's 'unnatural' love causes destruction and there is no happiness only death and tragedy.

Hollywood gay stories when all of them ended up in death.

Of course, Kiisa kills the love out of jealousy. Of course, Koon may fall for Kiisa but Sanka still rules him and causes his destruction.

    What?
The motif of the story was "obsessive love," not because it was "unnatural love."
The flaws of the characters were that they were obsessed with something.
Obsessed with being the Keeper, obsessed with having the Keeper, obsessed with Sanka, obsessed with traveling, obsessed of keeping the status quo of their natural world.
The story didn't scold Koon and Hiisa's relationship. It described how repetitive and flawed they were for being selfish about something. However it was when they were able to "get over it" upon the umpteenth life did the spiral finally end.
