Honestly, with how dumb and naive Dana is, if I saw that scene, I'd have assumed she was getting picked up/hit on by some sketchy guy who saw her waiting there alone and not that she was on a "date." Like obviously the dude is actually nice, but he's got dyed hair and piercings and Dana is kinda plain, so I'd be way more likely to think he's a playboy who was messing with her.
