No one is trying to treat her like a waste of space, if anything everyone around her just wants her to be happy and stay safe (except her father who's doesn't give a shit about her). Let's not forget no one around her knows of her abuse, trauma and insecurities. They don't want to overburden her already weak body with any bad news, they were all worried she might get depressed on top being mentally and physically drained from using all of her magic. Apart from Riftan, everyone is grateful for her actions and sorry for the sacrifice she had to make. In Riftan's case, he's writhing in guilt and self hatred as he failed to protect her. He deems himself unworthy of her and is pushing her away thinking she'll be happier that way. Idiotic decision really, but not surprising. It's clear from the story so far that he's always seen Maxi as some sacred entity and himself as a dirty commoner who is undeserving of her. The lack of proper communication and emotional bonding is really messing up their relationship. They're in desperate need to have heart to heart talk with each other.

Imagine coming from a home that didn’t want you and treated you like a complete inconvenience and doesn’t want you to exist. Then you find someone who has given you joy, love, and shown you what it’s like to be needed…like ya’ll expecting Maxi to not struggle with these feelings due to so much miscommunication. Maxi didn’t know she was even pregnant. She also helped to end the war which people seem to forget about. Maxi is learning and growing as her own person stop treating her like she’s a waste of space.
