Tbf, he wouldn't have given up on her unless she did something drastic. She also didn't know she was pregnant or that her sister would do the bare minimum.

Yess! I think the same too. The mom is more responsible. Instead of having a tragic break up and wounding him she could've just disappeared and leave her baby to him before dying. If she hadn't taken such measures maybe he wouldn't have sealed off his emotions either.
This is what I've been sayin, everyone is blaming him for thinkin she wasn't his daughter when it's the mother's fault. She broke that man so badly that he lock up all his emotions. She didn't tell him about the pregnancy and she mad him believe she hated him...why would he believe that she was his daughter? Like how else is a person without feelings goin to act?
