My little head cannon of mine is Im seeing mikail reacting like that cause he order to assassinate or poison his father, maybe the father is planning already a rebellion/traitor that could endanger the family. They are family siding with the first prince afterall. Or using his power to first, arrange marriage with helen the princess to him and using her and plan to use his son and daughter as tool for political conflict.
Thats why he reacted that way cus from the MCs words he chose the fast east way, but in the end felt empty. But that all in my head kinda expecting his cold side since he is the son of that duke and even marry helen, especially those smile since day 1.
