Thoughts (boi it’s a long one wink wink)

I’ve started reading this yearssss ago, i read it probably 3-4 times now cause i always forget where i left off, and now i finally got to read up to the latest chapters

Story is definitely unique, Zhenzu (mc) is destined to be a master in his craft while Hanbai (ml) is destined to revolutionize his family’s business through the craftsmanship arts. They’re basically a match made in heaven right, and i find it absolutely adorable.
Sometimes the chapters aren’t as clear and sometimes it’s jumpy, but there was nothing that really annoyed me, in the contrary, i found the reading really easy and enjoyable. Most of the reason is because the characters really are just that likable.
(I understand if to some readers finds the talk abt the carving and business proposals boring, but that’s literally the core of the story T-T some +knowledge never hurts)

The characters are great, Zhenzu can stand up by his own, he’s sometimes of a pushover i’ll admit, but never in an obnoxious way. He’s caring of others but he can also chose to put him first (esp during their “coming out” chapters, he’s not just ‘i should just stick loyally to my foster parents’ but he’s also choosing for himself, and his heart is telling him to risk it all for Hanbai). I’m glad he’s not crumbling to the feeling of guilt, he’s aware that loving another man can be seen as sinful to others, but he never backed down nor he ever tried to give up… so i’m really proud of this wittle bawby.

Hanbai ofc is the cool-headed, always three steps ahead, and cunning ML, everything abt him just screams confidence. He knows what he’s doing, and he knows his goals. He’s a dreamer but he has the ability to make it happen. And this also includes making Zhenzu the happiest man ever.
He doesn’t play about Zhenzu, as he should >:)

The family dynamics also works for the story, Ting En being the youngest and he’s in charge of the comedy relief most of the time when he appears, he’s always cheerful, even during the chapters where the protagonists are being “disowned” because of their relationship, it didn’t took long for him to support them ToT like, not even a day lol, he’s just a silly guy, simple minded but so cute hehe.
Then we have the second eldest brother (foureyes), i guess we needed some kind of villain right? And yeah, he’s just a delulu over-confident guy, he’s not even sly or that smart to begin with, he just falls into “bite off more than you can chew” category. But he serves to grant satisfaction when Hanbai puts him in his place, so it works.

Other notable side characters, Six-fingered master and Blind master are just too good, i love their dynamic with the protagonists, essential characters for the development of Zhenzu and Hanbai’s potential in their craft. I love that they really care for their disciples, and even if they’re old they didn’t oppose against their relationship. They were weirded out, which is understandable.

So in contrast, the Ding family was against Zhenzu and Hanbai’s relationship, and i don’t get why readers are hating them… don’t get me wrong, i’d also wish they could've supported of this love from the beginning.
But that wouldn’t make sense given the time and place, where tradition and conservative values are still a big factor in the chinese household.
That’s also one thing i liked abt this, it didn’t have to be just a cute happy story, but it also reflects some real-life aspects in the society.

I’m gonna stop here, i could write more about Zhenzu and Hanbai moments that are soooo gewd, but ehh it’s 4am

Last note, can’t wait to finally see them living together happily
