Endymion by James Wood. The painting shows a pretty shepherd being enchanted by the moon. The women is the goddess Selene who's an allegory to the night/moon. It's based on a poem by John Keats who in turn took inspiration from ancient greek mythology.
"Exhibited at the British Institution in 1833 ('Methought I lay watching the Zenith, / and lo! from opening clouds I saw emerge the lovely moon'). With DPG454, cited in the artist's obituary in the 'Art Journal' 1870, as one of the pictures that most contributed to extending his reputation. The subject is taken from Keat's 'Endymion', 1818, the quotation supplied in the 1833 BI catalogue seems garbled from book one, lines 578-92; the beautiful shepherd Endymion, beloved by the Moon (Diana/Selene) who visits him on Mount Latmos as he sleeps enchanted under her spell."

okay after the last chapter realizing quite a bit i think. first if anyone knows what that painting in the last panel is of the latest chapter that'd be cool to know. realizing hes not like a clueless victim but has genuinely put himself in this position to get closer to rosa. ig some obsession from childhood? he even got a tattoo of a rose. yea he is kinda of a freak too though crazy to fuck her mom just to get to her. recontextualizes a lot after rereading and how its not just toying with daddy he might be toying with her. honestly though im curious about the mom like what her intentions are. cuz i dont think she loves him and she doesnt seem dumb. shes doing this for rosa but i dont believe she just wants a family. theres obviously some other intentions. they both seem to prioritize rosa in some regard. curious to know more
