Honestly, you're not wrong. Half of her issues usually stem from her turbulent relationship with Riftan. The other half is because of her unresolved trauma and insecurities.
I read Ristan's POV and it doesnt justify anything that he's been doing to Maxi at all. Yes he is traumatized as well but so as everybody else in the story, esp Maxi. All I get is that he is the main antagonist to Maxi's growth.
I can’t stand riftan. He’s always pissed me off. I know I should read the other book so I can see his point of view. Though, frankly I feel that almost all the turmoil Maxi’s been feeling is because of her effing husband.
